Thousands know about Mars, but most never discover it

The simple secret of Mars – The diameter of Mars is almost 6800 kilometers.

Mars is about 1,5 times as far away from the Sun as Earth.

The mass of Mars is about a tenth of Earth's mass - The simple secret about Mars.

The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) space probe operated by the US space agency NASA has been orbiting our outer neighboring planet since March 2006 and has been providing the scientists involved in this mission with new data about Mars almost every day using the six instruments carried on board this Mars orbiter.

The main camera on board the MRO is the HiRISE camera operated by the University of Arizona, which, under optimal conditions, can achieve a resolution of the planet's surface of up to 25 centimeters per pixel.

The HiRISE cameraThe telescope with a focal length of 12 meters takes colored photos with a resolution of 250 centimeters per pixel from a distance of 25 kilometers and thus resolves rocks with a diameter of less than 50 centimeters.

A single shot is 1,6 gigapixels in size.

This is why the image selection that the researcher makes is so important:

Because of the huge amount of data per image, only around 120 images per week can be transmitted to Earth and therefore only selected parts of the Martian surface can be captured with the maximum resolution.

Wikipedia provides the following definition of Mars - The simple secret about Mars

The Mars is, counting from the Sun, the fourth planet in the solar system and Earth's outer neighbor. It is one of the earth-like (terrestrial) planets.

At almost 6800 kilometers, its diameter is about half that of the Earth, and its volume is a good seventh of the Earth's volume. This makes Mars the second smallest planet in the solar system after Mercury, but has a diverse geology and the highest volcanoes in the solar system. With an average distance of 228 million kilometers, it is around 1,5 times as far away from the sun as the Earth.

The mass of Mars is about a tenth of that of Earth. The gravitational acceleration on its surface is 3,69 m/s², which corresponds to around 38% of that on Earth. With a density of 3,9 g/cm³, Mars has the lowest density of the terrestrial planets. That's why the gravity on it is even slightly lower than on the smaller but denser Mercury.
