Beautiful words from Professor Carl Sagan

The Earth is a speck of dust in the universe – The Earth is a small stage in a gigantic cosmic arena and, for the moment, our only living space

Spaceship Earth: A speck of dust in the universe.

Pale Blue Dot is the name of one Photos of Earth, taken by the Voyager 1 spacecraft from a distance of about 6,4 billion kilometers, the greatest distance from which a photograph of Earth has ever been taken.

The image was taken on February 14, 1990 as part of a series of 60 images showing the entire solar system with six visible planets.

At the suggestion of the astronomer Carl Sagan After completing the primary mission objectives, Voyager 1 was rotated 180 degrees and captured the series of 39 wide-angle and 21 telephoto images.

At the time the image was taken, the spacecraft was about 6 to 7 billion kilometers from the Sun and 32 degrees above the ecliptic, so it was looking at the solar system from above.

The Earth was photographed with a telephoto camera using blue, green and violet color filters. The rays passing through the image occurred as sunlight scattering on the camera optics, as they were not designed to be aimed directly at the sun. The Earth only takes up 12% of a single pixel.

The image inspired Sagan to write his book “Blue Dot in Space. Our home universe”. Scientists voted the photo one of the ten best photos in space science in 2001.

The wide-angle shot of the sun was taken with the darkest filter and the shortest possible exposure time (5/1000th of a second) to avoid overexposure.

At the time of recording, the sun was only 1/40 the apparent diameter as seen from Earth. However, it is still 8 million times brighter than the brightest star, Sirius.

The concept of the Anthropocene places humans at the center of earth's history. The social and interdisciplinary discussion on this has increased significantly recently; it shows us clearly Eyesthat every single inhabitant of the earth takes responsibility for the planet. In geological stratification there is currently even a debate about including a new geological era called the Anthropocene in the official nomenclature of stratigraphers.
