Description: Sometimes when your Eyes Once you get used to the darkness, a spectacular sky appears.

That happened earlier this month, when one of the largest aurora displays in recent years occurred in northern locations such as the Norway-Russia border.

In the above Time lapse video Northern lights flow over snow-covered landscapes, trees, clouds, mountains and lakes near Kirkenes in Norway.

Auroras are often green when high-energy particles hit Earth's atmosphere and cause the air to glow as the electrons recombine with their oxygen ions.

Ouch andere Colors are occasionally noticeable when nitrogen in the atmosphere is affected.

In later picture sequences there are also the Moon and see rising stars.

By day Sun Expected to become even more active over the next few years, you too could find plenty of opportunities to see similarly spectacular Northern Lights, even in regions much closer to the equator.
