A course participant (from Dale Carnegie) once recounted how his wife, who was working on a self-improvement program with a group of other women, approached him and asked him to name six things he would like to have changed about her so that she could be a better companion to him in the future.
“Your request surprised me,” the man reported.”
To be honest, it wouldn't have been difficult for me to list six things I wish were different about her - but good heavens, she could have criticized a thousand things about me.
So I didn't say anything and just asked, "Let me think about it, I'll give you the answer tomorrow."
The next day I got up a little earlier, went to the florist and asked him to send my wife six roses.
I included a card: “I can’t think of six things I would like to be different about you. I liebe yourself as you are.
Who was waiting for me at the door when I came home that evening? That's right: my wife.
She almost had tears in her eyes Eyes. Needless to say, how happy I was that I hadn't criticized her like she wanted me to.
Am The next Sunday after church several questions came, who were taking part in the same course and to whom she had since told about my answer, came to me and explained:
“That was the most tactful thing we’ve ever heard.”
This example made me realize the power that recognition has.
